That sole win came at Pontefract just this week, on 29 June 2026, and it was a long time coming in the best possible sense. Look at the recent form figures — 4, 2, 3, 2, 1 — and what you see is a horse that has been creeping steadily up the order, getting closer and closer before finally converting. A win rate of 20%, or roughly one win in every five races, is solid enough on its own, but when those other four runs have all produced a place, it suggests a horse that rarely has a bad day at the office.

Capichera runs for Ed Walker, whose yard at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire has been in serious form this season — 76 winners is a big number, the kind of total that speaks to a well-organised, well-staffed operation that knows how to place its horses in races they can win. Walker has a reputation for bringing younger horses along patiently, and Capichera's gradual improvement through five races looks exactly like that process working as it should. The horse raced just one day ago, which means it is fit, active, and very much in the middle of its campaign.

Whether Capichera can kick on from here is the interesting question. A horse that has placed in 80% of its races — four from five — clearly has ability and attitude. The challenge now is whether it can step up in quality and reproduce that Pontefract form against stronger opposition. For now, though, this is a horse worth keeping an eye on: consistent, improving, trained by someone having a strong season, and still only three years old with plenty of racing ahead.
