The headline numbers tell a good story, but the detail is even better. Candy kicked off its winning run at Newbury in September 2024, then came back just two weeks later to win a top-level Class 1 race at Redcar — one of the biggest races you can win in Britain. It followed that up the same day at Ayr with another Class 2 success in 2024, and then returned to Ayr almost exactly a year later in September 2025 to win again. That sort of consistency at quality tracks is not easy, and it suggests this is a horse that turns up ready to perform on the big occasions rather than just filling out a race card.

One of the most striking things about Candy is what happens when the skies open. On wet or muddy ground, Candy has won 3 of just 4 races — a 75% win rate that is frankly extraordinary. Most horses tolerate conditions; Candy appears to thrive in them. When rain is forecast, this becomes one of the most dangerous horses in any field.

Jockey George Wood has been the constant throughout much of this journey. Riding Candy in 11 of its 16 races, Wood has won 4 times — that is a win rate of 36%, or more than 1 in every 3 rides together. That kind of partnership, built over time and across different tracks, tends to produce results when it counts.
