Campenaerts

The journey started with a first win at Wolverhampton in July 2025, and Campenaerts backed that up with another victory at Catterick Bridge in October. The recent form figures — 6-1-2-1-4-4 — show a horse that has been in and out of form over the last few months, but the two wins sandwiched in the middle of that sequence are the moments that matter. Jonathan Portman, who trains Campenaerts from his yard in Upper Lambourn, has had a productive season — 46 winners sent out already — and clearly knows how to place a horse in races it can win.

What stands out most is the conversion rate when Campenaerts is pitched at the right level. Winning 2 from 4 in Class 5 races, roughly one in every two, is the kind of number that would make most trainers very happy. The question now is whether the team can find the right spots to add to that tally. Having raced just a day ago, Campenaerts is clearly still very much in training and in the thick of things — and at three years old, there is every reason to think there is more to come.
