Back in the summer of 2024, Caburn announced itself in style. It opened its account at Salisbury on 26 June before following up at Newbury just three weeks later — both wins coming at Class 2 level, which means these were among the better races in the country. Winning once at that level is an achievement; winning twice in a matter of weeks, and doing it at two different tracks, marks a horse out as a genuine talent rather than a one-day wonder. The most recent win came at Great Yarmouth in September 2025, confirming this isn't a horse that simply got lucky in a purple patch and faded away.

What makes Caburn particularly interesting is how it performs on fast, dry ground. In those conditions it has won 2 of its 5 races — a 40% win rate — which is a striking number at this level. Many horses have a surface preference, but when the numbers back it up that clearly, it's the kind of thing worth watching closely when a dry spell arrives.

Caburn is trained by James Tate at Newmarket, a yard that has sent out 51 winners already this season — a productive, serious operation. In the saddle, Dylan Hogan has partnered Caburn eight times and won on three of those occasions, which works out at roughly 3 wins from every 8 rides together — a strong partnership by any measure. That sort of consistency between horse and jockey often matters more than people expect.

The recent form reads 6-12-3-8-1-14, which is a mixed picture — a couple of encouraging efforts sandwiched around some tougher days. Caburn raced just yesterday and clearly remains in active training. A horse that has already beaten good fields at Class 2 twice, that thrives on a fast surface, and that is still only 4 years old has every reason to find the winner's enclosure again before long.
