Bubbles Wonky

The horse raced yesterday and is actively campaigned by trainer Mark Pattinson's yard at Epsom. His preferred distance appears to be around a mile on ground with some give in it, though recent form suggests he may be capable of stretching further than initially thought. When he broke his duck at Catterick Bridge in October 2023, he was described as straightforward and talented, a horse who travelled well and quickened decisively when asked. David Allan has partnered him ten times, winning once, and the pair seem suited to one another — Allan has noted that Bubbles Wonky tanked along the bottom of the hill at Hamilton, pricking his ears and quickening readily under pressure.

What has held him back is a complete inability to win at Class 3 level, where the standard is higher. He has tried six times at that grade and has failed to land a blow, which explains why his recent wins have come at lower levels. The yard itself is in decent form this season with five winners, and Bubbles Wonky looks the type to keep finding races at his level. The consistent finishing record suggests he is reliably competitive, if not quite the horse his talent promised when those early wins came thick and fast.
