Break My Soul

Trained by Ian Patrick Donoghue out of Clonalvy in County Meath, Break My Soul comes from a yard that has been in good form this season, sending out 25 winners. Donoghue clearly knows how to place a horse, and Break My Soul's record suggests a partnership that has found its level — competitive without being flashy.

The most frequent partnership in the saddle has been with jockey Nico de Boinville, though the numbers there are a little lopsided: just 1 win from 7 races together, a 14% win rate, or roughly 1 in 7. That said, de Boinville is an experienced rider, and the combination has clearly been trusted enough to keep coming back. The first career win came at Chepstow in April 2024, and the most recent at Gowran Park in November 2025 — a gap of about 18 months between wins, which suggests this isn't a horse that wins in clusters. When it does land one, it tends to make you wait for the next.

The step up to Class 3 racing — one of the more competitive tiers — has so far produced nothing: 0 wins from 3 attempts. That's worth noting, not as a criticism, but as context. It tells you Break My Soul is very much at home at its current level, where it has earned its places and wins, but the top end of the race ladder has so far proved just out of reach.

Recent form reads 3-7-4-1-4-4 — that middle "1" being the Gowran Park win five months ago, sandwiched between a string of mid-pack finishes. Having raced just 18 days ago, the horse is clearly in active campaign, and there's every reason to think another placing, at least, is coming. Whether another win is on the horizon depends on finding the right race — and that's exactly the kind of puzzle Donoghue's yard has shown it can solve.
