The sole win came at Newcastle on 5th December 2025, and it remains the defining moment of Brave Traveller's career so far. Seven months have passed since that day, and the horse has not managed to repeat it — the recent run of form reads 3-7-2-9-5-1 going back from the most recent race, which tells its own story: a winner that day at Newcastle, then a patchy sequence since, with a second place offering some encouragement but a ninth suggesting the horse can also disappoint badly. Racing just yesterday, Brave Traveller is clearly still being asked questions.

What is perhaps most telling is the record at the level where this horse has most often competed. In three races at Class 5 — the kind of everyday races where horses of this profile are expected to be competitive — Brave Traveller has yet to win. Not once. The single win came elsewhere, which raises an interesting question: is the yard deliberately pitching this horse into slightly different conditions to find the right spot, or is Class 5 simply proving harder to crack than it should? B Smart's yard has sent out 18 winners this season, so this is not a team short of confidence or ability — Brave Traveller just has not yet repaid that faith regularly enough.

At three years old, there is still time. Horses at this age are still finding themselves, and one decent win can sometimes be the moment everything clicks. The Newcastle victory proves Brave Traveller can do it. The challenge now is doing it again.
