Brandenburg

The horse's recent form tells an interesting story. In its last six races it has finished fourth, twelfth, first, second, first, and twelfth — a lumpy record that shows Brandenburg can produce when conditions suit but struggles to find consistency. The win at Hamilton Park on 17 July was the most recent success, now three months in the past. Before that came a good second place, then a fourth at Beverley where it had tasted victory earlier in May. The two twelfths suggest the horse has days when it simply doesn't run to form, which at this stage of development is not unusual.

What stands out is that Brandenburg's breakthrough came at Beverley in May, and the yard of trainer Ann Duffield has had a decent season overall, sending out seven winners. For a young horse that was still learning the basics in spring, winning two races by summer is real progress. The question now is whether Brandenburg can cut out those poor runs — the twelfths in particular — and move toward a more reliable pattern. At two years old, there is still time to mature and settle, and the recent activity suggests the the yard are confident enough to keep running. The next few races will be revealing.
