That patience paid off at Salisbury on 14 August, when she landed a top-two race at 7 furlongs to record her first career win. It was only her third race, which tells you the team knew what they had on their hands. Portman is already thinking ahead, with a 7-furlong race at Newmarket in his sights — a smarter target than simply running her wherever there's a gap in the calendar.
The form picture is still developing. Her career record reads one win and four places from eight races, a win rate of 12% — roughly 1 in every 8 races — but zoom in on her recent runs and there are clear signs of a horse finding her feet. Her last six results, from most recent backwards, go 10-9-2-3-4-1. Those early struggles have given way to a string of placed efforts, and now a win at one of the top levels in British racing. Over her best trip of 7 furlongs to a mile, she has won 1 from 5 races — 20%, or roughly 1 in every 5 — which is a solid return for a horse still learning her trade.
Portman himself reckons she'll be even better next year when she's filled out physically. For a horse bought for £3,000 who has already banked over £9,600, that is a very encouraging thing for her the yard to be saying.
