The real story here is the partnership between Bowood and jockey Elle-May Croot. When the two are paired together, the results improve dramatically: Croot has ridden Bowood to five wins from 19 races, a win rate of roughly one in every four—nearly three times better than the horse's overall record. This is the kind of stat that catches a trainer's eye, suggesting genuine chemistry between rider and horse. It is no coincidence that Croot has been Bowood's most frequent partner. Ivan Furtado's yard at Wiseton, in South Yorkshire, has been quietly productive this season with 43 winners sent out, and this horse is clearly one that responds to the stable's approach.

Bowood also shows clear preferences. On normal ground conditions, it has won two of ten races, roughly one in five—double its overall win rate. The horse performs best when races stretch to between 1m1f and 1m2f, where it has won four of 23 races. The track at Newcastle clearly suits it: that is where Bowood recorded its most recent win back in November 2025. Yet there is a puzzling weakness at Class 4 level, where the horse has failed to win in 18 attempts—suggesting that when the competition stiffens, even slightly, Bowood struggles to deliver. Its last six races have brought no wins, with recent finishes of 12th, 12th, 7th, 12th, 3rd, and 7th. Still, the horse raced just yesterday and remains in active training, which means there is still time for another victory to come.
