What gives the story some shape is the yard behind it. Adrian Paul Keatley operates out of Ryedale in North Yorkshire, and this has been a productive season for the stable — 43 winners sent out is a healthy tally that suggests a yard in decent form. When a competent trainer keeps running a horse, it usually means they believe there is something worth finding. Whether Boutblummintime rewards that patience remains to be seen.
The horse raced just yesterday, so it is very much in the middle of its story rather than at the end of one. Two-year-olds can take time to mature, and a fourth-place finish in the earliest race at least hints that it was not completely outclassed from the off. The two sixth-place finishes since are less encouraging, but three races is a thin sample from which to draw firm conclusions. The next few outings will tell us a good deal more about whether this one has ability that simply hasn't surfaced yet, or whether it is simply outmatched at this level.
