Trained by M G Quinn out of Banbridge in County Down, Boomtown Lad races for a yard that has managed just one winner this season — so this is a small, modest operation, not a powerhouse stable throwing horses at races expecting easy returns. Horses from setups like this often need time to find their feet, and runs can be harder to come by, which makes every outing count a little more. The fact that Boomtown Lad was out on the track just yesterday suggests the team is keeping the horse active and looking for the right opportunity to click.

At four years old, there is still time. Some horses take longer than others to work out what racing is actually about. The gradual improvement across these six runs is genuinely the only encouragement on offer right now, and it would be unwise to overstate it — but it is there, if you squint.
