Boom Boom

The most interesting chapter of that story is written at Stratford-on-Avon, where Boom Boom has won twice from 12 races. Twelve races at one track is a serious commitment, and two wins from that haul — roughly 1 in 6 — means he has genuinely figured out how to go around the place. Stratford suits a certain type of horse: it rewards rhythm and jumping rather than raw speed, and Boom Boom appears to be exactly that type. His last win came there in July 2025, which is now a year ago, and the current winless run stretches to six races. For any horse, that is a stretch worth noting.

Rob Summers trains him out of Tanworth-in-Arden in Warwickshire, a yard that has sent out two winners this season. It is a small operation, and a horse like Boom Boom — competing mostly at Class 5, the entry-level tier of the sport — is exactly the kind of horse that keeps a smaller yard ticking over. Summers tried him over fences at Huntingdon back in October 2023, and while he got round in third, the trainer felt he could have jumped better and planned to fit him with headgear for the next run — a small piece of equipment sometimes used to sharpen a horse's focus. It is the kind of fine-tuning that matters at this level, where the margins are tight and every edge counts.

When Robert Dunne rides him, the numbers look considerably better: two wins from six races together, which is 1 in 3 — a win rate that would make him look like a very different horse. Dunne clearly understands him. With Boom Boom having raced just yesterday and still active, the question now is whether he can find his way back to Stratford-on-Avon and the form that suits him best. When the pieces come together there, he has shown he knows exactly what to do.
