Bonza Boy

Two of his three career victories have been at Exeter, from seven attempts there. Win 2 from 7 at a single track is the kind of stat that makes experienced racegoers take notice. Exeter is a tough, undulating circuit in Devon, and horses that genuinely handle it tend to come back and do it again. Bonza Boy has done exactly that — his first win came there in March 2024, and he returned to win again as recently as January 2026, just three months ago. When a nine-year-old keeps coming back to the same track and keeps finding the line, that is not a coincidence; it is a preference.

He also has a clear liking for wet ground. On soft or heavy going, he has won 2 of his 9 races — roughly 1 in every 4-and-a-half outings, which is meaningfully better than his overall average. Put Bonza Boy at Exeter on a wet winter's day and you are looking at a horse in his ideal conditions.

His recent form makes interesting reading too: finishing fourth, second, first, sixth, second in his last five completed runs, with one non-finish before that. A winner three months ago, with a couple of placed efforts since — this is a horse in decent nick, not one scraping around on past glories. He raced just yesterday, so he is very much in the middle of his season.

Trained by Jeremy Scott at Brompton Regis in Somerset — a yard that has sent out 21 winners already this season, suggesting a stable in good form — Bonza Boy races mainly at Class 4 level, which is solid mid-tier competition. He has won 3 of his 16 races at that level, around 1 in every 5, which is a perfectly respectable conversion. Regular jockey David Prichard has yet to get him over the line in nine attempts together, but given Bonza Boy's obvious fondness for Exeter in the wet, it may only be a matter of conditions.
