Bocelli's Voice

The partnership with jockey Patrick M O'Brien has been given a fair crack — nine races together — and they are still waiting for that first win as a combination. That is a long run without a breakthrough, and at this point it is hard to argue the pairing has unlocked anything special in the horse. Trainer Dermot A McLoughlin, based at Bodeen in Ratoath, County Meath, has had a decent season with 10 winners from the yard, so the operation is clearly capable of getting horses to win. Bocelli's Voice, though, has not been one of them for a while.

The recent form figures — finishing 10th, then two non-completions, then ninth, seventh, and sixth — show a horse that is running consistently without ever threatening the front. Racing just one day ago, Bocelli's Voice is clearly still fit and active, and McLoughlin has not given up on finding the right opportunity. But at 10 years old, with a first career win that only came at Clonmel in March 2023, this has never been a horse at the top of the pecking order. What it does represent is the reality of most racing — the majority of horses that compete week in, week out are searching for moments rather than collecting them, and Bocelli's Voice has been doing exactly that for the better part of three years.
