The recent form figures — 5, pulled up, 4, 7, 5, pulled up — paint a picture of a horse that has not yet found its moment. Two of those six outings ended without completing the course, and the best finish in the book is a fourth. That is a difficult record to dress up, and there is no point trying. What can be said is that Crawford's yard has been in decent shape this season, sending out 12 winners, so the infrastructure and know-how are clearly there. Whether Blue Du Neuf can tap into that is the open question.
Raced just eight days ago and still active, this is a horse whose story is still being written — though right now it is reading more like a rough draft than a finished article. Sometimes horses take time to find their footing, and sometimes they simply need the right conditions or the right day. Blue Du Neuf has not found either yet, but with a trainer who is clearly capable of winning races, there is at least a capable hand on the wheel.
