Blossom De Mai

The recent form tells the story of a horse treading water. In the last six outings, Blossom De Mai has managed one third-place finish but otherwise found the frame out of reach, with results of 7-–-–-5-8-3 showing a mixture of mid-field and out-of-the-money efforts. The horse raced just 12 days ago, so it remains part of trainer P J Rothwell's active string at Tinahely in County Wicklow. Rothwell's yard has been in decent form this season with 35 winners sent out, but Blossom De Mai has not been among the success stories of late.

Tiernan Power Roche has become the regular pilot, but the partnership has yet to produce results—0 wins from 6 races together—which suggests either the horse and rider have not quite clicked, or neither has found the right race setup. For a horse now into its ninth year with minimal wins to its name, opportunities are narrowing. Blossom De Mai remains capable of getting into the frame on its day, but at this stage of its career, another breakthrough victory would be a genuine achievement rather than a step on the way to bigger things.
