Block Capitals made his racing debut just over a day ago and finished 14th in his first outing. The 3-year-old, trained by
Jack Foley at Bagenalstown in County Carlow, is still finding his feet on the track. Foley's yard has sent out 4 winners already this season, so the trainer knows how to prepare a horse for racing — but every horse needs time to learn what racing is actually about. A first run is often messy, a scramble, a learning experience rather than anything definitive. Block Capitals has the advantage of racing for a yard with recent form, which suggests the horse arrived at the races in reasonable order. What comes next will tell us far more than that opening 14th-place finish.
