Jessica Macey, who trains him out of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, picked him up at the October sales after he had made one win under Ger Lyons. She put him straight to work on the all-weather and he rewarded her quickly, winning at Southwell and then Chelmsford before she deliberately put him away with a turf campaign in mind. That kind of patient, structured thinking is how you get the best out of a horse like this. Macey's yard has sent out 13 winners this season, and Blind Beggar has been part of that machinery, operating mainly at Class 4 level — the bread-and-butter tier where consistent horses can make a real mark. At that level he has won 5 from 21 races, a win rate of 24%, or roughly 1 in every 4, which is genuinely good.
The most striking thing about Blind Beggar is what he can do on soft or wet ground. On muddy surfaces he has won 2 from just 7 races — that is nearly 1 in 3, a number that should make any opposing trainer nervous when the rain arrives. His course record at Chelmsford is similarly eye-catching: 2 wins from 5 races there, which suggests he simply takes to the place. His regular rider Alistair Rawlinson has been on board for 20 of his races and ridden 3 of his 6 winners together — roughly 1 in every 7 rides turning into a win, which is a solid partnership at this level.
The headline moment of his career came at Bath in April 2024, when he won a Class 2 race — one of the top contests in British racing. That is a significant step up from his usual Class 4 world, and it shows there is genuine quality buried in there. His most recent win came at Sandown Park in July 2025, where jockey Luke Morris noted he had dropped to a good mark, jumped cleanly, and simply galloped through the line the way a fresh, well-placed horse does. He has not won since, and his last six runs make for difficult reading — two eleventh-place finishes among them — but he raced just yesterday, so the team clearly still believes there is a race to be won.
