The 26 places alongside those 7 wins suggest he is rarely embarrassing himself — he competes, he just does not always finish on top. His recent form backs that up: in his last six races he has finished second twice and won once, with a rough patch in the middle where he trailed home 22nd. That kind of inconsistency is normal for a horse of this age and experience, and the two recent runners-up spots suggest he is still very much in the mix.

The partnership with jockey Robert Whearty is worth noting.
