Bergomi is four years old, which means this debut has been a long time coming — horses of this age have had time to grow, fill out, and do plenty of work at home before the yard decide they are ready to be seen in public. That patience can be a good sign.
The trainer is Paul Nolan, who operates out of Enniscorthy in County Wexford, and the yard has already sent out 22 winners this season — a healthy total that suggests this is a team in form and confident about what they are running. Nolan is not the type to travel a horse to the track just to fill a field. Whether Bergomi can deliver on debut remains to be seen, but there are worse introductions than arriving as part of a yard firing on all cylinders.
