Bentley Road

Trained by Stuart Coltherd at his yard in Selkirk, Roxburghshire, Bentley Road raced as recently as yesterday, so this is very much an active campaign. Coltherd's operation has sent out one winner so far this season, which gives some context to where this horse sits — a small yard grinding away at the edges of the sport, where every winner matters and every runner has to earn its keep.

The recent run of form tells its own story: seventh, second, fourth, fifth, and a blank before that. There's a shape to it — the second suggests a moment where things almost clicked — but the overall picture is of a horse that tends to find one or two too good on the day. At seven, with no wins on the board, the window for a breakthrough is narrowing, but yesterday's run confirms the team hasn't given up on finding the right opportunity.
