On normal ground conditions, Belgarum wins 5 from 18 races, or just over 1 in every 4 — a meaningful jump from its overall record that suggests the horse simply does not perform at its best when the ground gets wet and muddy. Pick your spot on a dry day at Fontwell, and you are looking at a very different animal.

Recent form backs that up. In its last six races, Belgarum has finished fourth, fifth, second, and then won — a sequence that suggests a horse rounding into form rather than fading out of it. It last won at Fontwell Park on 14 May 2026, just two months ago, and raced again only yesterday, so this is a horse very much in the thick of things right now.

The partnership with jockey Freddie Gingell is worth noting. Together they have won 4 of their 13 races — roughly 1 in every 3 — which is a noticeably better ratio than the horse's overall record would suggest.
