Beggarman

The bare numbers tell a similar story. From 42 races, Beggarman has won 6 times — roughly 1 in every 7 races — and finished in the places on a further 18 occasions. He is, in other words, reliably competitive and reliably short of the line. He mostly competes in Class 6, the entry-level tier of British racing, where he has won 4 of his 19 races at that level. Not spectacular, but honest work for a horse at this stage of his career.

What makes him worth watching, though, is the Welsh track at Ffos Las. There, something clicks. He has won 2 of his 5 races on that course — 40%, which is extraordinary when you consider his overall win rate of 14%. His most recent victory came there in July 2025, and Morrison confirmed he was a touch behind where he needed to be physically when he came back into work this season, needing an early run just to sharpen him up. The form since — finishing 5th, 7th, 4th, 12th, 4th, 5th — looks unremarkable, but on normal ground, where he genuinely thrives, Beggarman has won 3 from 12 races. That is 25%, or 1 in every 4, which is a very different horse from the one that looks workmanlike elsewhere.

Jockey Rob Hornby has been in the saddle most regularly, riding him in 8 races for 1 win together. Morrison, whose yard has already sent out 20 winners this season, seems to approach Beggarman with an amused realism: the horse will probably find a way to finish second, but once in a while, especially somewhere like Ffos Las on decent ground, he remembers how to do it properly. He raced just yesterday, so the legs are still ticking over. The trick, as ever, is catching him on the right day.
