The recent form tells the story of a horse still trying to find its level. In the last six outings, Beckon has managed one third-place finish but mostly failed to trouble the front end, with efforts ranging from seventh to ninth. That third-place run at least suggested there is still something there worth working with.

What does give cause for optimism is how the horse has performed at the right trip and the right class. When Beckon races over 1 mile 1 furlong to 1 mile 2 furlongs, the record improves to one win from four races — a 25% win rate, which means it wins roughly one in every four attempts at this distance. Drop down to the softer Class 5 level and the form becomes genuinely impressive: one win from three races, a 33% win rate. That December victory at Newcastle fell at this exact distance and class, which is not coincidence.

Susan Corbett's yard at Otterburn has been productive this season with 11 winners, and Beckon is still relatively young with time to develop. The challenge now is getting back into races where it can compete at that Class 5 mark and over distances between 1m1f and 1m2f — the formula that already brought success once. The window for a second win is still open, but it is closing. Recent form suggests it may need a gentle step down to rediscover the confidence that carried it past the post at Newcastle.
