Trained by Henry De Bromhead out of his yard in Knockeen, County Waterford, Becasse is in capable hands. De Bromhead is one of Irish racing's most respected names, and the numbers back that up: 107 winners sent out already this season from the same yard. That is not a trainer who runs horses for the sake of it — horses that make it onto the track from Knockeen are generally there because the team believes in them.
The recent form line of 2-–-2 tells an interesting story in a small space. The dash in the middle means one run that did not produce a finishing position — likely a non-completion — sandwiched between two runner-up finishes. So Becasse has been competitive when she has got round, which is a meaningful distinction. Finishing second twice from three races is not the record of a horse that is simply making up the numbers. She is placing consistently; she just needs one more gear, or perhaps one softer race, to get her head in front for the first time.
With a race just yesterday, she is very much an active project. The story is still being written.
