Beattie Is Back

Between seven furlongs and a mile, Beattie Is Back transforms. At that distance, the record reads four wins from 17 races, which works out at nearly 1 in every 4 — almost four times better than the overall figure. That kind of gap between a horse's best trip and its wider record tells you something important: this is a horse with a specific gear, and when races are set up to suit it, it becomes a genuinely different proposition.

The most recent win came at Doncaster in June 2025, and the recent form figures of 15-–-4-6-7-1 show a horse that found the winner's enclosure after a patchy run of results. A blank (the dash) and a fifteenth aren't exactly encouraging, but the 1 at the end is what matters most right now. Beattie Is Back raced just one day ago, so this is very much a horse in the thick of an active campaign.

Trained by Richard and Peter Fahey at Musley Bank in North Yorkshire — a yard that has sent out nine winners already this season — Beattie Is Back has most often been ridden by Oisin Orr, though that partnership is yet to click into gear. Nine races together, zero wins is a combination that invites questions about whether a change of jockey might be the missing piece. The horse has been competing mostly at Class 4 level, where the win rate drops sharply to just 1 from 16 — roughly 1 in every 16 races. That suggests Beattie Is Back finds this grade competitive and needs things to fall right.

What keeps the interest is the distance profile. A horse that wins nearly a quarter of its races at the right trip, trained by a yard in form, and just off a win — that's a horse worth watching when everything lines up.
