Beat The Devil

That sole career win arrived at Dundalk on the 9th of January 2026, and it remains the defining moment of his story so far. Dundalk is Ireland's all-weather track, racing year-round under floodlights, and picking up a win there in the depths of winter is no small thing — the competition is often tight and the racing relentless. It was also Beat The Devil's best distance, somewhere between a mile and a mile and two furlongs, where he has won 1 from 6 races (a 17% win rate at that trip), which is meaningfully better than his overall record and suggests the distance genuinely suits him.

Since that January win, though, he has gone six races without returning to the winner's enclosure. His recent form reads 5-2-7-4-2-2 — two seconds and two fourths mixed in with a couple of disappointing finishes. The placings keep coming, which tells you he's not out of his depth, but there's a gap between being competitive and actually winning that he hasn't yet managed to bridge again.

He is trained by Patrick Magee, based in Shercock, County Cavan — a small yard that has sent out eight winners this season, which is a respectable return and suggests Magee knows how to place his horses and get results. Beat The Devil is clearly an active part of their season's workload, having raced as recently as today.

At four years old, he still has time to add to that single win, and if the right race comes up at Dundalk over his favoured mile-to-mile-and-a-quarter trip, the form is there to suggest he can do it. He's not a horse who dominates — but he's one who turns up, competes, and occasionally reminds you what he's capable of.
