What makes Basilette genuinely interesting is how specific her preferences are. She is, in her trainer's own words, a summer horse who loves fast, dry ground — and when conditions suit, she becomes a different animal. Mullins was candid about the plan during a winter stable visit: she had been rested, her flat racing mark was sitting attractively low at 49, and the intention was to bring her back in February and mix flat racing with hurdling through the summer months. That strategy appears to be working. She won at Bath as recently as last week, on 13 May 2026, and has raced just yesterday — a schedule that suggests a busy, well-managed campaign.

Her record over longer distances — two miles and beyond — is where she does her best work. Three wins from 11 races at that trip works out to winning roughly 1 in every 3 or 4 races, which is a strong return for a horse competing consistently at Class 5, the bread-and-butter level of British racing. She has also developed a genuine affinity for Stratford-on-Avon, winning twice there from six visits. That kind of course form is not coincidence — some horses simply take to a track's layout and rhythm, and Basilette is one of them.

Jockey Daniel Sansom has partnered her for 11 of her races, landing 2 of those wins — roughly 1 in every 5 rides together. Behind the scenes, Mullins' yard has been in good nick more broadly, sending out 10 winners this season alone. For a small operation in rural Wiltshire, that kind of output reflects a trainer with a clear eye for placing his horses well. With Basilette racing just yesterday and already a winner last week, she is firmly in the middle of her summer campaign — and on current form, she looks like she has more to give.
