Barry's Boy

At that trip he has room to stride on without being asked to stay further than he's comfortable with. Trainer Denis Coakley, based at West Ilsley in Berkshire, has had 10 winners this season from his yard, and he has clearly identified where this horse belongs.

The partnership with jockey George Bass is probably the most striking thread in Barry's Boy's story. In nine races together they have won twice — a win rate of 22%, or roughly 1 in every 4 or 5 rides. That is nearly double the horse's overall record, and it suggests real chemistry between the two. When Bass is in the saddle, something clicks.

His two career wins have come at different tracks — Windsor in May 2025 and Newcastle in March 2026 — which shows he is not entirely dependent on one circuit. He has done exactly that in 1 of his 6 starts at that level. Nothing flashy, but a horse with a reliable partner, a clear best distance, and a trainer in form is always one to keep an eye on.
