Punchestown is his spiritual home. The Irish track has seen two of his five career wins — his maiden victory there on 23 May 2023 was the beginning of his story as a winner, and most recently he returned to the track on 2 May 2026 for another success. Across five races there, he has won twice, which hints at a real affinity with the course. Given he last raced just yesterday, his trainer Dermot A McLoughlin at Bodeen in Co Meath is keeping him active and in the game. His usual partner is jockey Conor Maxwell, though their record together — one win from six races — suggests the chemistry is not always there. The yard itself is doing well, having sent out ten winners already this season.
His form over the last six races tells a story of a horse fighting the odds. A thirteenth-place finish, then a win, followed by a third, a sixth, and a fifth shows someone who wins on occasion but more often than not runs in the middle of the field or behind. At eight years old, Barry Lyndon is still capable and still trying, but he is a horse you would back specifically when the ground is soft and ideally when he is heading back to Punchestown. Outside those perfect conditions, he is a genuine gamble.
