Aurora's Doublesix

The recent form offers little encouragement either. Looking at the last six races, the best effort was a fourth-place finish, and since then the results have gone backwards, finishing ninth, tenth, eleventh, ninth, and sixth in various orders. These are not near-misses — this is a horse that has been finishing well down the field more often than not.

Faye McManoman has partnered the horse six times, which suggests a settled working relationship, but the pair are yet to trouble the judge together, drawing a blank in all six of those races. Trainer Brian Rothwell operates out of Oswaldkirk in North Yorkshire and has sent out just one winner this season, so this is a small yard working at the modest end of the sport. Aurora's Doublesix typically races at Class 6, which is the lowest level of competition in British racing — essentially the entry-level tier where horses who struggle to win elsewhere come to find easier opportunities. The fact that the horse has raced seven times at that level without winning even once is the most telling detail of all.

None of this means the horse won't eventually find its way into the results. Racing can be unpredictable, and a horse can take time to mature or find the right conditions. But as things stand, Aurora's Doublesix is one of those horses that keeps showing up without quite delivering — and with a race just yesterday, the search for that elusive first win continues.
