Trained by M A Cahill out of Carrick-On-Suir in County Tipperary, Auguste Gusteau is part of a small operation that has sent out one winner this season. That's a modest total, but small yards often operate with patience and purpose, and a horse that has already banked a placing at this early stage of its career has something to build on. The yard will know this horse better than anyone, and the fact it keeps getting runs suggests they believe there's a result in there somewhere.
The recent form reading of a seventh and two unplaced efforts won't set pulses racing, but three races is a very small sample for a three-year-old still learning the game. At this stage, experience is often as valuable as results, and each run teaches a young horse something new about competing. The question now is simply whether the right opportunity comes along — the right conditions, the right field — to let Auguste Gusteau show what it's actually capable of.
