The recent form doesn't paint a much brighter picture. Over the last six races, the best results have been a pair of fourth-place finishes, with a sixth and a seventh mixed in. One run produced no finishing position at all, suggesting the horse may have been pulled up or was unplaced entirely. The most encouraging thing that can be said is that Attention Seeker raced just yesterday and came out of it in one piece — still active, still trying.
At Class 5, which is effectively the entry level of British racing, the horse has gone 0 from 4, meaning it hasn't been able to win even at the easiest tier of competition. That's where the real concern lies. Horses typically compete at Class 5 because it gives them the best chance of winning — and Attention Seeker hasn't been able to take advantage of that. Trainer Brian Ellison, based at Norton in North Yorkshire, has had a productive season with 43 winners from his yard, so the operation around this horse clearly knows how to get horses to win races. Whether Ellison can unlock something in Attention Seeker remains the question.
At three years old, there is at least time on the horse's side. Some horses take longer to figure things out, and a yard that has sent out 43 winners this season is not without the tools to help. But right now, Attention Seeker is asking its trainer — and anyone watching — to be patient.
