What stands out most is what happens on normal ground: on standard conditions, Atsila has won 2 of just 4 races, a 50% win rate that is genuinely exceptional. In other words, when the track is neither too wet nor too dry, this horse is a different animal entirely.
Gavin Ryan has been the regular pilot, riding in all six of Atsila's career races and partnering both winners. That kind of continuity matters — a jockey who knows a horse's habits, quirks, and how it wants to be ridden is a real asset, and Ryan clearly gets the best out of this one. The yard behind them, trained by Donnacha Aidan O'Brien out of Ballyroe in County Tipperary, has sent out 30 winners already this season, so this is a team that knows how to have a horse ready to run its best.
The one thing to flag is the break. Atsila hasn't raced in roughly five months, since that Curragh win in early May. Horses returning from a layoff can be rusty, or they can come back sharper than ever — there is simply no way to know until they hit the track again. What we do know is that the foundation is there: two wins, a horse that thrives on decent ground, a settled partnership with its jockey, and a trainer firing on all cylinders. If the conditions are right when Atsila returns, it would be unwise to write this one off.
