What stands out most is what happens on normal ground: on standard conditions, Atsila has won 2 of just 4 races, a 50% win rate that is genuinely exceptional. In other words, when the track is neither too wet nor too dry, this horse is a different animal entirely.
Gavin Ryan has been the regular pilot, riding in all six of Atsila's career races and partnering both winners. That kind of continuity matters — a jockey who knows a horse's habits, quirks, and how it wants to be ridden is a real asset, and Ryan clearly gets the best out of this one. Horses returning from a layoff can be rusty, or they can come back sharper than ever — there is simply no way to know until they hit the track again. What we do know is that the foundation is there: two wins, a horse that thrives on decent ground, a settled partnership with its jockey, and a trainer firing on all cylinders. If the conditions are right when Atsila returns, it would be unwise to write this one off.
