The fact that Ataturk raced just yesterday and is clearly being kept busy suggests the yard believes there is a race to be won somewhere in the near future. Trainer Hughie Morrison, based at East Ilsley in Berkshire, has sent out 20 winners already this season, which marks him out as a trainer in good form — his operation is producing results, even if Ataturk hasn't been one of them yet. When a yard is firing like that, you tend to trust that they know what they are doing with a horse still learning the ropes.

Zero wins from five races is not a crisis at this stage for a three-year-old. Horses this age are still developing physically and mentally, and plenty of them take time to put it all together. The second place finish is the detail to hold onto — it means Ataturk has already been good enough to beat most of the field in a race, just not the one horse that mattered most on the day. Whether the step up to a first win comes soon will likely depend on finding the right opportunity, and with a trainer hitting his stride this season, that search is clearly ongoing.
