The headline moment came on 11 February 2023, when Aslukgoes won a Class 1 race at Newbury — one of the most prestigious races in the country. That is not something most horses ever do. Bowen described him afterwards as "very gifted", and with good reason: a horse that travels to Newmarket and, in the trainer's own words, "walked round like he owned the place" before a big-occasion win has a certain presence to it. There were even conversations about Punchestown and Aintree, which tells you the level people thought this horse was capable of reaching.
What followed was harder. Aslukgoes picked up an injury heading into the 2023-24 season and missed a full year of racing. That kind of setback can take the edge off a horse, and the record since his return has been more modest. He has not won in his last six races, and his best finish in that run is a second place — his other results reading fourth, sixth, seventh, and fourth. For a horse who once competed at the top level, those are workmanlike numbers. His overall win rate of 31% — four wins from 13 races, roughly 1 in every 3 — reflects a career with genuine peaks rather than steady consistency.
There is one place, though, where Aslukgoes reliably turns up: Worcester. He has won there twice from five visits, and his most recent win anywhere came at that track as recently as July last year. Jockey Jack Quinlan has ridden him six times at that track, picking up two of those wins — a 33% win rate together, which is a strong partnership by any measure. Worcester seems to suit something about how this horse races, and when those two factors combine, he is worth watching.
At eight years old and raced just yesterday, Aslukgoes is still an active runner. He is most often entered in Class 4 company these days — a considerable step down from that Newbury peak — but the talent that took him there has not entirely disappeared. Some horses carry a big win with them long after the form has softened. This is one of them.
