What does give reasons for optimism is the yard behind the horse. Asgar is trained by Clive Cox at Lambourn, one of British racing's great training villages in Berkshire, and Cox's operation has sent out 48 winners already this season. That is a stable in seriously good form, and when a trainer of that calibre keeps a young horse in work and running, it tends to mean they see something worth developing.
At two years old, with just two races under its belt, Asgar is still essentially a learner. Most horses of this age are still working out what racing even is. The profile may be modest for now, but the page is almost entirely blank — and that, at least, leaves plenty of room to write something better on it.
