Arnaz

The breakthrough came nearly two years ago at Brighton in May 2024, and since then Arnaz has added two more victories, most recently at Chepstow eight weeks ago. What stands out is how recent its wins have been. In its last six races, Arnaz has finished first twice, with a fifth and three sixth-place finishes — the kind of record that shows a horse capable of competing but struggling for consistency at the highest level it faces. Mark Loughnane's yard, based at Rock Farm in Worcestershire, sends out winners regularly (25 this season), so the training is solid; the question is whether Arnaz simply belongs in less demanding company than it sometimes gets.

There is one clear strength: Arnaz thrives on dry, fast ground. On those conditions, it has won 2 of 7 races (29%), a rate nearly three times better than its overall record. The softer the going, the harder the horse finds it. Tom Marquand, who rides Arnaz most often, has yet to taste victory in seven attempts together — not necessarily a sign of mismatch, but worth noting given how rarely the horse wins with any jockey.

Arnaz is actively racing and was out just yesterday. It is not a flashy performer, but it is one that occasionally gets the job done. For a horse competing at lower levels, consistency matters more than brilliance, and Arnaz shows enough of both to remain competitive. The dry ground preference is the key: follow the weather forecast, and you follow where Arnaz might next win.
