The recent form makes for honest reading. Over the last six races, the best Arctic Saint has managed is a second place, sandwiched between a string of mid-pack finishes — fourth, fifth, fourth, and a couple of blanks. There is no obvious upward curve here, and the horse has gone six races without winning. At Class 5, which is the lower end of the racing ladder, Arctic Saint has run five times without a win. That is not the level where you expect a horse to be struggling, which makes the blank record harder to explain away.
Deborah Cole trains the horse from her yard in Knowle, Warwickshire, a small operation that has sent out four winners this season — so the team clearly knows how to get a horse past the post. Arctic Saint just has not been the one to do it yet. With the horse having raced as recently as yesterday, Cole is clearly keeping it active and looking for the right opportunity. Whether that opportunity arrives before Arctic Saint's record stretches any further remains the question.
