Both of his best wins have come in top-level company. His first career win came at York in October 2023 — a Class 1 or 2 race at one of Britain's most prestigious tracks, which is not the place where unknown horses quietly slip through unnoticed. Ryan said afterwards that Apiarist had gone too fast the previous time and that patience was the key — a detail that has clearly shaped how the horse has been ridden since. Then, in February 2025, he won another Class 2 race at Southwell, this time over seven furlongs, with Ryan noting that dropping back in distance suited a horse who has sometimes raced too freely over longer trips. Two wins at the top end of the racing ladder is a meaningful achievement, and Ryan talked afterwards about big summer handicaps as a genuine target.

Tom Eaves has been the regular partner, riding him in 17 of his 31 races and winning 3 of them — a win rate of roughly 1 in every 6 rides together (18%), which is a solid partnership by any measure. The yard itself is in strong form, having sent out 45 winners this season, so Apiarist is operating within a confident, well-resourced operation. He has not won in his last six races, and it is now 17 months since that Southwell success in February 2025, which makes the next step an interesting question. Ryan has mentioned the Lincoln as a possible return to turf — a famous early-season handicap that would suit exactly the profile of a horse with proven Class 2 form and something left to prove.
