Apiarist

The two standout wins both came in Class 2 company. The first arrived at York in October 2023 — a genuinely significant track, one where the racing is taken seriously and the fields are rarely easy. That was the opening chapter. The more recent highlight came at Southwell in February 2025, a win on the all-weather surface that showed Apiarist could still find a finishing effort when it mattered. Normal ground conditions appear to suit best — 2 wins from 8 races on a standard surface works out to 25%, or 1 win in every 4, which is a meaningfully better record than on other types of going.

Jockey Tom Eaves has been the regular partner, riding Apiarist in 17 of its 28 races. Together they've won 3 times — roughly 1 in every 6 rides — and that kind of long-standing combination often means the jockey knows instinctively how to get the best from the horse. Recent form tells a more complicated story, though. The last six runs show a mix of mid-field finishes and the occasional third, with no win since that Southwell success fourteen months ago. Having raced just yesterday, Apiarist is very much still in active training and clearly being kept busy.

The overall picture is of a horse that operates near the top end of its class, earns its place in competitive fields, and occasionally finds a performance good enough to win one. The dry spells between victories are part of the deal at this level — the fields are simply too strong most weeks. When the right race appears and the ground comes up normal, Apiarist has already shown twice that it knows exactly what to do.
