There are glimmers of something useful, though. When ridden by Keith Donoghue, Antrim Coast has won two of nine races together, a respectable 22 per cent win rate that suggests the pair understands each other. Both career wins came through regular the yard at Irish tracks—Punchestown in October 2023 and Wexford the following May—which hints at a horse that suits a particular environment. The yard behind it, Henry De Bromhead's operation at Knockeen in County Waterford, is a serious force this season with 110 winners sent out, so no questions about the quality of horsemanship. Yet despite that training excellence and the occasional good day with Donoghue, Antrim Coast keeps finishing a nose away from victory without quite getting there. It raced just yesterday, so the yard is still trying. At eight years old and 26 months without a win, though, the window is narrowing for this persistent but ultimately modest runner to add a third success to its name.
