Angel's Call

Recent form makes for uncomfortable reading. The last six runs have produced finishes of 8th, 13th, 7th, 9th, 7th, and 9th — consistently mid-pack at best, and that 13th suggests at least one day where things went badly wrong. There's no obvious trajectory upward here, and with races at the bottom level of the sport — Class 6, the entry level of British racing — where she has yet to win in five attempts, the puzzle of where a win might come from is a genuine one.

The distance range where she shows most promise, at least statistically, is the short-sprint territory of five to six-and-a-half furlongs. She has won 1 from 10 races at those distances, which is 10% — roughly one win in every ten attempts there. That's modest, but it's where her only career success came, and it's where any future optimism would logically sit.

Joshua Bryan is her most regular partner in the saddle, and the pair have a record of 1 win from 5 races together — that's 20%, or one win for every five rides. On paper that's actually the most positive number in her profile, and it points to a partnership that at least has found the winner's enclosure once. Bryan is clearly the jockey who knows her best. She is trained by Nikki Evans at a small yard in Pandy in Monmouthshire, a setup that has sent out two winners so far this season — Angel's Call is not among them.

For a horse still racing actively — she ran just yesterday — the question is whether there's another Wolverhampton moment waiting. One win and two places from 18 races is a slim return, but she keeps turning up, and sometimes that persistence is all a horse has to offer.
