That single outing, just one day ago, ended in seventh place, which tells us she has seen a racecourse and knows what it feels like to compete — that experience matters more than people realise with young horses. Many of the best two-year-olds take a race or two to find their feet before things click into place.
What gives genuine cause for optimism is the stable behind her. James Fanshawe operates out of Newmarket, the spiritual home of flat racing in Britain, and his yard has sent out 44 winners already this season — that is a serious training operation producing results week in, week out. When a trainer of that calibre takes the time to run a young horse, it is rarely done without a reason. Fanshawe and his team will have seen something in Angel Of Heaven on the gallops that makes them think she is worth persevering with. One bad day at the office means very little when the people around her clearly know what they are doing.
The honest truth is there simply is not enough evidence yet to judge this horse either way. Check back in a few months.
