Andys Flame

The most striking thing about Andys Flame is the ground. On normal conditions — not too wet, not too firm — this horse transforms. Two wins from nine races on good ground works out at 22%, or roughly 1 in every 4-and-a-half races. That's more than double the overall win rate, and it's the kind of pattern a smart punter would file away. When the conditions are right, Andys Flame is a very different proposition.

The most recent win came at Kelso in April 2025, which at the time of writing was just over 14 months ago. Kelso is a tight, twisting track in the Scottish Borders that tends to suit nimble, experienced horses rather than big, galloping types — and that win suggests Andys Flame has the nous to go with the ability. The first career win came back in March 2022 at Downpatrick in Ireland, so this is a horse that has been around long enough to know its job.

Andys Flame is trained by John C McConnell, based out of Stamullen in County Meath. The yard has been in fine form this season, sending out 38 winners — so this is clearly an operation that knows how to get a horse ready to win. The most frequent jockey partner has been Mr A Harvey, who has ridden the horse five times without getting their hands on a win together. That's a combination still searching for the right day.

With a win as recently as April last year and form reading 6-4-1 in the last three completed runs — including a win and a place — Andys Flame is clearly still competitive. A horse who has raced 20 times and is still placing regularly at nine years old deserves respect. Get the ground right, and the form suggests there could be another win in the locker.
