Andys Flame

The horse has not won since Kelso on 7 April 2025, a stretch of 18 months without a victory despite continuing to race regularly. Over the past six runs, the results tell a familiar story: 10th, 12th, 3rd, 11th, 6th, and 4th. There is a 3rd place in there to suggest some fight remains, but the absence of wins is telling. Most troublingly, Andys Flame raced just yesterday and finished 10th—not a promising sign for a horse at this stage of its career.

Where Andys Flame has found its level is on normal ground conditions, winning 2 of its 13 races (15 per cent) when the track is neither especially firm nor especially soft. That is where the horse seems most comfortable. In Class 4 races—competitive but not elite company—the record improves markedly: 1 win from 3 races (33 per cent), suggesting the horse performs better when stepped down to this level rather than facing stiffer opposition.

John McConnell's Stamullen yard has been productive this season with 36 winners sent out, but Andys Flame has not contributed to that tally recently. Regular jockey Mr A Harvey has yet to ride the horse to victory in six attempts together, which may or may not be significant. At nine years old and without a win in the last 18 months, Andys Flame has become a peripheral figure in the race card—a horse that shows up, tries hard enough, and goes home without troubling the judge.
