That is meaningfully better than its overall record and suggests the horse is at least competitive when conditions suit. The issue is that it has spent much of its career stepping up in class, and at Class 2 level — among the better races in Britain — it has drawn a blank in all four attempts, losing every one. That is not a disgrace; Class 2 races are tough, and simply being placed in that company would be a decent result for many horses.

Richard Hannon is one of the most prolific trainers in Britain, and 113 winners from his yard this season alone tells you this is an operation that knows how to get a horse ready to run. The fact that An Outlaw's Grace has not added to its tally despite being in capable hands makes the wait for that second win all the more intriguing. It is a horse that has proven it can find the line first — Salisbury in June 2024 is evidence of that — and at the right trip, on the right day, it may do so again.
