Gowran is a tight, undulating track in County Kilkenny that tends to suit horses who are handy and adaptable, and Amplitude clearly found something he liked there. Whether he can translate that form elsewhere remains the key question around him.

He is partnered most often by Gary Carroll, one of Ireland's more reliable jockeys, and between them they have built a decent working relationship — Carroll has ridden him in five of his seven races and has that Gowran win to show for it, a 20% win rate together, or 1 win in every 5 rides. That is a solid number between a jockey and a single horse, suggesting Carroll knows how to get the best out of him.

Behind the scenes, Amplitude is trained by Joseph G Murphy at Fethard in County Tipperary.
