Where Ameilya does look more interesting is over a specific distance. At a mile and one or two furlongs — roughly the length of eight or nine city blocks, if you want a frame of reference — she has won 1 from 3 races, which works out at 33%, or about 1 in every 3 attempts. That is a meaningfully better record than anywhere else she has run, and it suggests she at least has a preferred setting in which she becomes competitive.

She is trained by Stuart Coltherd, whose yard is based in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders. It has been a quiet season for the stable, with just one winner sent out so far. Ameilya raced as recently as yesterday, so she is clearly in active training and her the yard are still looking for opportunities. Whether she can rediscover the form that brought her that Gowran Park win remains the question — but finding the right distance seems the most logical place to start.
