Amburana

The recent form figures of 13-7-3-4-10-6 do at least show a couple of brighter moments buried in there. That third-place finish stands out as the closest Amburana has come to any kind of reward, and the seventh is respectable enough. But the 13th place and the 10th show the other side of the coin — a horse that can disappear into the back of the field as easily as it can find a little motivation. There is no consistent thread to grab hold of here.

Trained by Padraig Butler out of Bandon in County Cork, Amburana is part of a yard that has sent out four winners this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get a horse to the winner's enclosure. Amburana, however, has not been one of them. Having raced just one day ago, the horse is active and clearly still being campaigned, which suggests Butler sees something worth persisting with — though on the evidence of nine career starts, it is hard to know exactly what that might be.
